August 9th is National Book Lovers Day and I have 2 little girls in my house who LOVE to read and play with books! Their older sister has always loved books too and now at age 11 she is the top reader in her grade! I hope the twins follow in big sister’s footsteps and always have a love for written words.
There are countless studies describing how important it is to read with your child. Even in the infant stage start reading to them! Then even when their attention span isn’t long enough to listen to a whole book, point out animals, shapes, colors, etc. Just keep putting books in front of your children!
The girls are 2 now and below are a list of books that they really enjoy!
- The Crayons’ Book of Colors
- The Crayons’ Book of Numbers
- Treasure Hunt: On the Farm
- Jamberry – This has been their favorite book since they were 1! I’m not sure who gave it to us but it is a rhyming story and they always request it!
- Little Blue Truck’s Halloween
- Alphaprints: Colors – I love this brand! They use fingerprints and ordinary objects to create the characters! The girls love to feel the textures!
- My First Colors
- Hands are Not for Hitting – A good book even if you don’t have a hitter! Prevention!
- First 100 Box Set
- My Big Animal Book
- Sharing Time
- Montessori: Number Work – I love how they trace the textured number with their finger! Interactive and will help when they begin to write!
- A B See – This book is a favorite of mine! Beautiful images!
- Chica Chica Boom Boom
- The Very Hungry Caterpillar – A classic. Lots of activities you can do along with this book too!
- Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
- Planes
- Dr. Seuss’s ABC Book
- Mickey Mouse Clubhouse First Look and Find – they have a wide variety of these books with different characters! Each set of pages includes a small story and then items for your little one to find! My girls love these!
- The Pout Pout Fish
- Toes, Ears and Nose
- Goodnight Moon
- Five Little Ducks – Love that this book also is a song and so they can make that connection! Music is remarkable the way it aids with memorizing!
- Ten Tiny Toes – Anything by Caroline Jayne Church is a great choice!
- Where is Baby’s Belly Button – One of our favorites to learn body parts!
Am I missing any classic ones that we MUST have?! Tell me your child’s favorites.
xoxo,
